Vicki Quaites-Ferris joined the African-American Empowerment Network in 2009 and currently serves as the Director of Operations. The Empowerment Network is a non-profit organization that focuses on improving the quality of life and economic position of African-Americans, residents of North Omaha and citizens of the Greater Omaha area. Vicki is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the network, participates in strategic planning, and community partnership and redevelopment initiatives such as the North Omaha Village Revitalization Plan, while facilitating multiple covenant meetings.
Prior to joining the Empowerment Network, Vicki served as Deputy Assistant to Mayor Mike Fahey. In her capacity, Vicki researched, analyzed and evaluated community initiatives, reports and studies, briefed and advised the Mayor on City and community issues and, collaborated with City Departments on various projects, studies and initiatives. She also worked with neighborhood associations, community organizations; handled police complaints, coordinated Town Hall meetings and served on a number of boards and committees.
With over 25 years of experience, Vicki brings a wealth of knowledge and experience in the government, marketing and human service industry. Vicki also served in the PJ Morgan Administration where she administered Boards and Commissions, coordinated the Sacred Heart Mentoring Program and represented the Mayor at various functions, events and community meetings.
Vicki’s previous experience includes positions as the Job Transition Specialist for the Omaha Housing Authority Focus Omaha job training program, Director of Marketing and Public Relations for the Omaha Riverfront Jazz and Blues Festival and Guest Services Director for the historic Westin Aquila Hotel now currently known as The Magnolia Hotel.
Vicki is a recipient of the National Coalition of 100 Black Women (NCBW) Omaha Local Chapter’s Legacy Award in the area of Economics and the Omaha/Council Bluffs Metropolitan YMCA Black Achiever in Business and Industry Award. Vicki is also a graduate of the United Way of the Midlands Heartland Blueprint Class XX. She currently serves on the MAPA Economic Development District Governing Board, MAPA Coordinated Transit Committee and Heartland 2050 Equity and Engagement Committee.
Vicki’s past board affiliations include: Metro Area Planning Agency Board (MAPA); Impact One Community Connections; Omaha Downtown Improvement District Association; Destination Midtown; Keep Omaha Beautiful; Omaha Healthy Kids Alliance (OHKA); Metro Area Continuum of Care for the Homeless (MACCH); Executive & Steering Committee Member for the North Omaha Development Project and Board Member, Community Advisory Group (Omaha Superfund Lead Initiative)
Vicki received a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Wayne State College and is married to her wonderful husband Jason Ferris.
