MLK Week, Red Carpets and Black History Celebrations

In honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., the Empowerment Network and community partners plan, organize and host positive activities to commemorate his work and achievements.

The Empowerment Network also launched Black History in the Village at 24th and Lake.

Previous events have included a Red Tails Premiere with the Tuskegee Airmen; focus on Innovations in Education with Eric Mahmoud; Dr. King’s favorite foods with Big Mama’s Kitchen; Red Carpet Premiere with the producers of the Lessons from Hayti documentary.

Other Red Carpet events have featured blockbuster releases of the movie Selma and Hidden Figures.  The events have attracted over 500 in attendance including panels with key local and national leaders.

In addition to the Red Carpet events, the Empowerment Network has hosted Black History in the Village, worked with the City of Omaha to created the Omaha Mobile Civil Rights Museum and organized celebrations to recognize Omaha’s African-American history makers and trailblazers.
